About Strata
Strata is a free tool for agreeing what data you need about each kind of asset, and why. It is owned and operated by Colazul Labs LLC.
Who is behind it
Strata is owned and operated by Colazul Labs LLC. It is built by a US-based asset management professional who kept running into the same problem: teams load asset data into a system before they have agreed what the data is for. I built the tool I always wanted.
What it does
- You build an asset hierarchy, or start from an industry template.
- You give each data point a purpose, the decisions it feeds and the system it lives in.
- You present it, export it as an editable PowerPoint, JSON or CSV, or share one link with your team.
It is not an asset register or a maintenance system, and it does not hold your records. It describes what you record about each kind of asset and why. Your systems still hold the records. To learn the ideas first, start with what an asset hierarchy is.
What it does with your data
Your work stays in your browser. The hierarchy you build is saved in your browser’s local storage, on your own device. Nothing is uploaded while you work. Opening a template, importing a spreadsheet or a PowerPoint file, presenting and downloading all happen in your browser.
Nothing is uploaded until you share. Share is the one action that sends a document anywhere. When you publish a share link, that version of the document is stored on Cloudflare, the company that hosts Strata, in its Workers KV storage, protected by two passwords you choose. Strata runs no database of its own and keeps no other copy. Take the link down with your owner password and the stored document and its versions are deleted.
The only other thing you can send us is an email address. If you join the Plus waitlist, your email, the tool you use today and where you signed up go to our mailing-list service, Mailchimp.
There are no accounts, nothing is sold, and the builder has no analytics. The marketing pages count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies. The details, including the one cookie that opens a shared link, are on the privacy page, and the rules of use are in the terms.
